Kitchen Swaps
Glass Tupperware: Looking for glass tupperwares? I love these. They come in many different sizes and work perfectly. If you still have some plastic Tupperware and want to get new ones, I’d recommend these, but definitely don’t throw out the plastic ones you have. Use them until you can’t anymore and recycle if possible!
Glass Bottles: I use these glass bottles when I make large batches of juice. They have never leaked for me and fit a good amount of juice in just one bottle. If you don’t really need them, then I don’t recommend them. But if you make juices in large batches like me or something like that, then these are really useful for storing and drinking out of!
Glass Straws: These are my absolute favorite straws. I actually use them every day. They are really simple and cute and are extremely durable. Take it from a super clumsy person, I have dropped them many, many times and haven’t even noticed a single crack. I absolutely love them. They are pretty wide and come with straw cleaners, making them really easy to clean!
Organic Cotton Bag: I use this for making my own nut milk and it works great! It’s made from organic, unbleached cotton. It’s shipped plastic-free in a recycled envelope. I’ve only used mine a few times when making my own nut milk, and it’s worked great every time. I don’t have any problems with it, so if this is something you could use I recommend looking into this one!
Dish Block: After switching to dish soap block, I am never going back to the liquid ones. This is the first block I’ve ever used and I absolutely love it. I’ve been using mine for about a month and a half now and I feel like I haven’t even made a dent in it. Lasts a long time, is a huge money saver, and a really great alternative to liquid soap packaged in plastic bottles. I use this with my loofah sponge and they are a great pair!
Loofah Dish Sponge: These dish sponges are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Literally. It is made from the Loofah plant. It is dried and the seeds are picked from them. They are super easy to use and wash my dishes so well. They are a little smaller than a normal sponge, but it hasn’t been a problem for me. In my opinion, it works better than a normal sponge and my dishes are actually squeaky clean after washing with this sponge. It’s also naturally biodegradable and packaged completely plastic-free. An absolute favorite.
Reusable Cup: If you’re in need of a reusable cup to carry around with you, this is a great option! The cup itself is made of glass and the lid is made from bamboo. It does come with a plastic straw, which is unfortunate, but it should last you a while. The sleeve is made from non-toxic silicone.
Reusable Produce Bags: I personally love these produce bags! They are a really great replacement for the plastic produce bags at the store. They come with so many, I have more than enough and have even given some to my family members. It comes in three different sizes which are perfect for all different fruits and veggies. Overall, don’t really have anything bad to say about them. I love this purchase.
Bathroom Swaps
Bamboo Toothbrush: I love these toothbrushes! I’d first like to say bamboo toothbrushes can be quite expensive sometimes, but this product comes with 10 for only about $8 which isn’t bad at all in my opinion. They work just like a normal toothbrush. I’ve been using mine for about 6 months now and I wouldn’t go back. The best part is that they are biodegradable and compostable. The bristles are made of nylon and should be cut off before composting!
Ethique Shampoo Bar: This is only the second shampoo bar (after J.R. Liggett, which I don’t recommend) but I absolutely love it! I have the Heali Kiwi. It smells really good and doesn’t dry out my hair at all, which is a plus since the last bar I had dried it out a lot. I also found out that they have a shampoo bar for blonde hair which I thought was really cool!
Menstrual Cups: I absolutely swear by these. They are one of my favorite purchases, and I recommend them to every female. These particular ones are very cheap (about $10) compared to other brands that sell them for $30+ and work just as well. It saves tons of money and waste on regular pads. They are really easy to clean too. (Do your research to see what size you should get. I know it’s different if you’ve given birth, but not sure about anything else).
Ethique Conditioner Bar: This conditioner bar lathers so well compared to other ones I’ve used. My hair feels softer and smells great! They also have one for kids.
Loofah Bath Sponge: Replacing my plastic loofah with a natural one is one of the best swaps I’ve ever made. It’s naturally exfoliating, lathers the soap just as well, and is 100% compostable and biodegradable! (just make sure to take off the string before composting)
